NFC Helps to Win the Mobile Payment Battle?

Last June, China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile network operator, and Chinese bank card association China UnionPay have launched their NFC trusted service manager (TSM) platforms. Several banks already used the platforms to enable mobile payment. Yet China Mobile is not the only mobile operator to support NFC payment, China Telecom and China Unicom also took steps.

Meanwhile, as one of NFC payment leaders, China UnionPay is more active in this sector — it has already worked with 15 banks to launch its UnionPay mobile payment platform and promote NFC payment based on the platform.

The reason why UnionPay supports NFC payment is that with the development of other forms of payment raised by Alipay, WeChat, etc., UnionPay has to strengthen its position.

As the competition in the payments area is heating up, NFC payments will play a more important role in the future. Some think smart card manufacturers will benefit the most from this battle.

Statistics from Changjiang Securities show that NFC-SIM cards is indispensable in the battle of mobile payment, and promotion of mobile payment will bring huge demands for NFC-SIM cards.
