DT Teamed up with Wirecard to Move into the Mobile Payments Markets

T-Mobile-Deutsche-Telekom-Wirecard-mobile-payment-rfid-blogLast month, T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced work on a MasterCard PayPass platform comprising NFC cards and mobile phone tags. The tools are gradually rolling out to the operator’s 93 million strong European subscribers.

Now, the German operator has picked mobile payment provider Wirecard to support its move into the mobile payments markets. Wirecard will help with technical processes for issuing DT’s MasterCard, support the carrier with payment processing, as well as provide assistance with the launch of DT’s mobile wallet which is set for release in 2013.

Wirecard’s card readers are compatible with both mag stripe and EMV cards and can be used in conjunction with other Wirecard solutions to let third party providers create their own secure mobile processing solutions.

“In Wirecard we have found the best partner for card management and technical processing, taking the next step in creating an ecosystem for anything to do with mobile payment,” says Deutsche Telekom’s Peter Vesco. “With the technical implementation of online, store-based and mobile payment in the safe and experienced hands of specialist Wirecard, we can concentrate on our core business.”

“As a technical services provider, we are in an ideal position to provide the necessary processes, such as real-time card creation, payment processing and other additional services for mobile payment,” said Wirecard CEO Markus Braun.

“As an innovative solution provider for the telecommunications industry, we offer a wide range of mobile payment services, including classic and contactless cards, NFC stickers, and real-time provision of virtual cards for NFC-compatible smartphones,” Braun added.
