Nokia to Bring NFC Ticketing to India Metro Rails

Nokia-India-metro-NFC-ticketing-rfid-blogNokia India is reportedly in talks with Indian Metro Rail projects to introduce NFC-based ticketing services for its consumers. Nokia seems to be rolling up its sleeves to make sure NFC gets established in India. The report also mentions that Nokia has partnered with the mobile payment company PayMate for NFC solutions and has tied up with leading banks for this service.

Speaking to the publication, D Shivakumar, Senior Vice President, IMEA region, informed that this service will enable Metro service providers to reduce long queues and other problems associated with getting train tickets and claimed that NFC along with mobile money service would be an ideal solution for this problem.

The NFC initiative seems to be a part of Nokia’s long term game plan in India because NFC enabled mobile phones are yet to find their way to Indian users.

NFC technology allows communication between two devices in closer proximity, usually a few centimeters. With the NFC ticketing enabled, user will just be able to tap the phone on the NFC machine to purchase tickets. The process will not only be speedier, but also help cutting down long queues.
