Sony Reveals New Christmas Tree, with NFC Smartphone-controlled Lights
Sony has revealed a new Christmas tree decorated with lights controlled by a smartphone.
The limited-edition tree uses an NFC connection and any NFC-capable smartphone to change the color of the lights.
Scanning an NFC smart tag attached to the tree and a dedicated app allows users to take advantage of the technology.
The lights can be set to a specific choice of colors or set to the automatic disco mode. A portable NFC speaker hidden among the branches also plays music, while the lights flash in time with the tune.
However, the tree is not available to buy at present. Instead, Sony is offering the tree as part of a competition on its Sony Mobile UK Facebook page.
